The story behind Dolan Lumber
Dolan’s Lumber is a family-owned and operated building material supplier with a rich history. Dolan’s has been in the Bay Area for over five decades, serving the building industry and homeowners.
Over the years, Dolan’s Lumber has provided much more than lumber to our customers.. we provide solutions. It’s not unusual for customers to say they can remember coming to Dolan’s with their fathers or grandfathers when they were children. Now under the direction of our founder P.E. Dolan’s son, Gene Dolan, and a third-generation, Patrick H. Dolan, we continue to grow while carrying on the family legacy.
Dolan’s Lumber was founded on hard work & enthusiasm for perusing one’s dreams.
Patrick Eugene Dolan, founder and patriarch, immigrated to the United States when he was 21 years old. He earned his high school degree at night, worked various jobs, earned his American citizenship and served in the National Guard. In the Christmas season of 1958, he cut and sold Christmas trees, earning $6000. This became the seed money used to open his first lumber yard in Pinole the following year.
As the company grew, P.E. was very involved with each of his lumber yards. He visited each location almost daily and telephoned each evening to inquire about the day’s accounts. When Patrick said, “we sell everything to build anything,” he meant it. One past employee recounts times when P.E. would go out of his way to purchase an item we clearly did not carry, and have it ready for the customer to pick up the next day. He dedicated his life to making others happy. Many can recall over the years walking into a Dolan’s Lumber location and being greeted by his smile and a handshake. During his later years, he would come to answer the store telephone, “Dolan Lumber,” he would greet customers.

Our Concord and Pinole locations feature full-service lumberyards and hardware stores. In addition to an extensive selection of building materials, we carry the best tools, trims, moulding, decking, fencing and landscaping materials. Don’t see what you need? Special orders are never a problem!
Windows and doors are also on display in our Concord & Pinole mini showrooms.
